Sardine fish( locally called chaala) is packed with a large amount of calcium and vitamin D.It is really good .So let’s make a simple curry with it.Sardine fish curry with goodness of malabar spices.


Preparation Time:
15 Minutes



  1. Sardine fish-1/2 kg(cleaned)
  2. Onion-1 small
  3. Garlic-1
  4. Green chilly-2 nos
  5. Tomato-3 nos
  6. Fenugreek seeds(methi,uluva)-1 teaspoon
  7. Dried malabar tamarind(kudampuli)-3 pm
  8. Coconut oil-3 tablespoon
  9. Red chilly powder-1 tablespoon
  10. Coriander powder-1 tablespoon
  11. Turmeric powder-1/2 teaspoon
  12. Curry leaves-a handful
  13. Salt to taste

How to Cook!

  1. Heat oil in a cooking dish(i used the traditional claypot)
  2. Add fenugreek seeds in to it,after its splutters add the garlic and onion.
  3. Cook until it becomes brown
  4. Add the green chillies and tomatoes.
  5. Stir well and cook until it is softened.
  6. Add red chilly powder,coriander powder and turmeric powder and cook well.
  7.  Now,add boiling water (  quantity depends on how much you need gravy)
  8. Then add the malabar tamarind and salt to taste.
  9. When it condense,add fish in to it.
  10. Mix well and cook it for 5-6 minutes(close the dish with a lid) in a medium flame.
  11. Finally, add the curry leaves .And pour it in to a serving dish.
  12. Very tasty sardine fish curry is ready.It goes too good with rice,tapioca fry,puttu …and many.Give a try .
